The basics

What a Bridge Actually Does

A bridge “bridges” the space left by a missing tooth. Crowns on the neighbouring teeth — or on implants — support a replacement tooth that is fixed permanently in place. It looks, feels and works like your own.
Left open, a gap lets neighbouring teeth drift, changes your bite, and makes chewing harder. Closing it protects the teeth you still have.

Should You Choose a Bridge — or Something Else?

A bridge is rarely the only way to replace a missing tooth, and it isn’t always the best one. Here is the honest starting point we use with our own patients.

A bridge fits when…

Look at other options when…

Your options

The Four Types of Bridges

The right design depends on where the gap is, how strong the neighbouring teeth are, and your budget.

Traditional

The workhorse choice. Crowns on both neighbouring teeth support the replacement tooth. When those neighbours are strong — or would benefit from crowns anyway — this is the predictable, non-surgical option, completed in two to three visits.

Cantilever

Anchored on one side only. Used selectively for smaller teeth away from heavy bite areas, since a single anchor tooth carries all of the chewing force.

Maryland

The conservative option for front teeth. Thin wings bond to the backs of the neighbouring teeth, so almost no healthy enamel is drilled away.

Implant-supported

No natural teeth touched. Two implants anchor the bridge instead of your own teeth. It costs more and takes longer — and it preserves jawbone. Implant planning is done in-house by Dr. He.

What a Bridge Costs in Oakville

In Ontario, a standard three-unit bridge — two crowned anchor teeth supporting one replacement tooth — is typically quoted around $3,500. Simpler cases come in below that; longer spans and implant-supported bridges run higher. Most patients land between $2,500 and $4,500. Bridge work is also within the scope of the Canadian Dental Care Plan for eligible patients.

The process

Your Bridge, Visit by Visit

STEP 01

Exam, scan & prepare

We examine the gap and anchor teeth, take digital impressions, and gently prepare the anchors under local freezing. You leave with a temporary bridge the same day — about 60 to 90 minutes.
STEP 02

The lab builds it

Over one to three weeks, a dental lab custom-crafts your bridge to the exact shade and shape of your smile, while your temporary protects the prepared teeth.
STEP 03

Fit, adjust & cement

We check the fit, colour and your bite, make fine adjustments, and cement the bridge permanently. You eat normally the same day — carefully at first.
Aftercare

Make It Last 15 Years or More

Bridges commonly last 10 to 15 years — and the difference between a 10-year bridge and a 20-year one is almost always daily care. The critical habit is cleaning under the replacement tooth, where a regular floss line simply cannot reach. Your regular checkups are where we watch the anchors and catch wear early.
